Giants starting pitcher, Matt Cain delivered this specific ball for a strikeout of Rockies catcher Tony Wolters in the top of the 3rd inning. The ball remained in play for the next two batters, Jeff Hoffman (groundout) and Charlie Blackmon (foul), before being removed from play. Cain did not factor in the decision but recorded 3 strikeouts while yielding 3 runs over 6 innings of work. The Giants ace also collected a single in the bottom of the 5th inning, marking the 73rd hit of his career (74 total career hits).

The whiff officially marks Cain's 1668th career strikeout (1694 total career K's) and the 49th K of his final MLB season. Alabama native, Matt Cain was selected in the first round (25th overall) of the 2002 June amateur draft by the San Francisco Giants.
